Birds in Sri Lanka

Birds in Sri Lanka

Birds are the most innocent creatures that add beauty and variety to the animal life and wildlife of this planet. We open our eyes along with the thousand and one musical notes of colourful birds in the dawn. We have a combination of aquatic birds near the fields and tanks. Some of them are storks, egrets, herons, water hens, spoon bills, purple coots and king-fishers. Some common birds such as crows mynahs, seven sisters, wood-peckers, parrots and chatterboxes often associate close to our home environments.
Of those humming birds are the tiniest and the most fascinating specially with their hook like beaks. Though my country is a little island we are rich with thousands of species of feathered creatures. Bats and owls remain calm and quite during the day time, as they are nocturnal birds. What so ever, these harmless birds do not ask anything from man rather than wild fruits and nuts and freedom.

A water fall in Sri Lanka

A water fall in Sri Lanka

Waterfall is essential but common. It has so many formations. Among those waterfalls are the most fascinating natural resources we possess. Dunhinda is one of the best in my little Sri Lanka which is located in Badulla District. The name implies the smoke like spray it creates as its water falls into the rock pool below. The graceful nature of falling the huge flow of water is really enchanting and amusing. Cascading through the lush green forests and splashing on the gigantic rocks and innocently moving ahead wetting and fertilizing an enormous area of Badulla village. This massive volume of glistening water has some magic in it that calms the tensed mind.

Importance of learning English

Importance of learning English

English language is plays a vital role where the communication is concerned throughout the world. The use of English has become so much indispensable and handy in spheres such as science, commerce, business studies and politics, where the need for extensive communication exists. This has become the most popular language as it is a useful instrument to the whole world. Owing to this tendency, each and every child is interested to adorn with this attractive dress.
This offers many advantages for the child in his/her future. Now English language is considered as an International Language. Most of research work in science and technology in the world is being done through the medium of English. It is really a big window to the western culture. It is also argued that most of the Asian freedom fighters such as Sir S.W.R.D Bandaranayake, D.S Senanayake, M.K Gandhi, J.L Neru and Rajendra Prasad were greatly influenced by western political thought on freedom through the study of English philosophers, thinkers and poets.
So English Language is the link between different local language is the link between different local languages and a strong bond  for national integration.

Living in the future

Living in the future

Future is always unseen and indefinite. It can never be per-arranged or prescheduled. Something mysterious. It cannot be grasped within the frame of our imaginations. There have been many premonitions yet so far proved to the incorrect. Even then I love to be in this illusion. Whether it is true or false.
I may open my eyes in the morning with screaming of vehicles instead of chirping of the birds. Either sides of the compound there will be concrete walls to obstruct the wind. Heaps of artificial flowers are waiting in rows to welcome my awakening. Plastic feathered birds may dance around them either the thousand of polythene winged butterflies. So atmosphere may be so warm and heaty.

Robotics may serve us books and time tables to select the streams for us to follow. With the nick of time we will have a gulp down the lesions as lumps of rice. Lesions will soon be digested and huge computers may indicate the level of our knowledge. We’ll be provided with many assessments and our performances would be checked.
Transport system is quite rapid and methodical. We may not be kept waiting as we have floating buses. No long queues or rushes but each and every passenger is well cared for. No tickets are issued. But with a soft push of a tiny button we’ll be indicated the particular termination.
There may be no drivers or conductors. But special charges have to be made for the accommodation in planets. There we find all the facilities including lodgings. Also we would be supplied with all sorts of amusements such as carnivals and late night musical shows so as to deafening with sounds of drums which might get fed up of sound pollutions. Once again there would be token strikes and commotions regarding the classes of musical show. So we will be punished and sent off the earth with the charge of hundred thousand dollars.
Those who remain calm and quite will get a free ticket to moon. So by all means “living in future” will be so wonderful and fantastic.

Street Education

A Programme to Educate Street Children in the World

“Child is the father of man” Once a great educationist said. Each and every child who is born on this earth has a right for education just, we all talk about the child’s right, yet we never poke deep in the matter? Why do children lose their rights to educate, who are the children who are the denied of this privilege? Why do they become drop outs? Is there any remedy to wipe out this situation? Who is responsible for it? Where do they go? All these questions can be raised only rhetorically.

Number of factors prevailing in our society are partly contributed to increase the number of street children in this little island. It is very pathetic to see, crucial situations such as parental death, long term illnesses, deprivation of love and kindness, insecurity and frustration. These unhealthy situations are persuaded them to leave their homes in search of better living or odd jobs. So automatically they too come under the category of homeless children. Specially the children of broken homes have no particular aim or ambition.
Also the complicated situations in certain areas of the country have resulted greatly for the deprivation of education of the child. Migrating families to the city aimlessly. This situation goes from bad to worse. This increased the rate of child neglect child abuse, school dropouts and run away children among the most less privileged community.
So we can expect something worthwhile contribution from this type of children to the society? Even then these innocent creatures must be educated in a school. They too are the owners of free education. If we try hard, this effort may be successful in to a certain extent, with the tenderness of the teachers-receivers may get inspired.

There may be obstinate children or “tough nuts” among them. If they are encouraged to stay after school for an extra bit of learning perhaps it would be more appealing for the them to break their monotony. Children from broken families are very delicate and flimsy. They must be handled with care as they are easily broken.
Establishing street schools is also an effectively remedy for this sorrowful situation. Every bird likes to be in its own nest. If they are indifferent to seek the education, it is no wonder lessons should go to them to be served.
These school may be more appealing to them when sitting side by side with their peer group. This might be enhanced for them to obtain a bit about the society. For them, it is also a certain study to get rid of evils and corruptions. If anyone can supply them with a bit of assistance to adjust their crooked lives how fortunate these street children are?
These innocent flowers must not let to be down-trodden or withered untimely as they too are human beings who are gazing to take over the future of our world.
